In the renovated Salzkontor, an old salt warehouse at Kopenhagenerstrasse 31c in Berlin, modern residential spaces emerge from the blend of historical architecture and contemporary design. The seven new residential floors merge with the original structure, creating a striking contrast between brick and exposed concrete. At this intersection of old and new, the kitchen is seamlessly integrated.
A dark gray varnished plywood cube houses a bathroom and a storage chamber, extending into the kitchen’s high cabinets, which accommodate the fridge, oven, and dishwasher while providing ample storage space. From this cube, a sleek white, free-floating countertop extends outward. The cabinetry, fitted with drawers, is framed by a black edge crafted from durable Westag & Getalit board material, giving the design a light, graphic quality.
This project was designed and realized in collaboration with Markus Lassan.
